Top 10 Nigerian Artistes



    
                Today, we are going to be writing on the top 10 Nigerian Artistes. We have a lot of artistes in Nigeria both upcoming and those that have made it big in the music world. This list was generated through a survey we performed. We gathered the results and accurately graded the artistes without any prejudice. Let's get into this blog, shall we.


10.                        Teni
                      
                    Teniola Apata, better known as Teni is the younger sister of Nigerian singer Niniola. Teni is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and entertainer. She released her debut single "Amen" while signed to Shizzi's Magic Fingers Records. Teni started gaining prominence when she released the single "Fargin" in September 2017. She made her breakthrough after releasing the hit singles "Askamaya", "Case" and "Uyo Meyo". In 2019, her song "Case" won The Headies best pop single. She has also won a lot of other awards.

9.                             Simi
                      
                      Simisola "Simi" Ogunleye is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and actress. Simi grew up dancing and singing as a member of her local church's choir. She wrote her first song at age 10. Her professional music career started in 2008 after the release of her debut studio album "Ogaju". She gained prominence when she released the song "Tiff", a song that was nominated for Best Alternative Song at the Headies 2015. She currently owns her own record label "Studio Brat". 

8.                            Olamide
                      
                     Olamide Adedeji known professionally as Olamide but popularly called Olamide Baddo or BaddoSneh, is a Nigerian hip hop recording artist. He records mostly in Yoruba, his native tongue. In 2011, he released his debut studio album Rapsodi while signed to Coded Tunes. YBNL, his follow-up album was released under his label imprint YBNL Nation. His album "Baddest Guy ever liveth" won him the album of the year at the 2014 Headies. He has also won numerous awards.

7.                      Naira Marley
            
                    Azzez Fashola known professionally as Naira Marley, is a Nigerian Singer and songwriter. He is known as the president of controversial fan base, "Marlians". He released his debut EP "Gotta Dance" in 2015. In December 2017, he released the Olamide and Lil Kesh-assisted single "Issa Goal", which became the theme song for the super eagles at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He sings in English, Pidgin and Yoruba; his music is a blend of Afrobeats and hip-hop. He was arrested on 3 May 2019 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) after releasing a track "Am I a Yahoo Boy". He later released "Soapy" in June 2019,  a few days after he was released from prison. He won Viewers' Choice for "Soapy" at the 2020 Soundcity MVP Awards.

6.                       Rema
                        
                    Divine Ikubor also known as Rema. He is a Nigerian singer and rapper. In 2019, he signed a record deal with Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records. He rose to prominence with the release of the song "Dumebi". His song "Iron man" appeared on Barack Obama's 2019 summer Playlist. He won Next Rated and was nominated for Viewer's Choice at the 13th edition of The Headies. On January 12, 2020 he received the Soundcity MVP for best new artist.

5.                     Joeboy

             Joseph Akinfenwa Donus, known professionally as Joeboy is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. Mr Eazi discovered him in 2017 after watching an Instagram video of his cover to Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You". Joeboy released the Mr Eazi-assisted track "Fààjí" on October 26, 2018. Joeboy's single "Baby" was released in March 2019; it gathered 20 million streams across YouTube and Spotify in 2019. Joeboy won Best Artiste in African Pop at the 2019 All Africa Music Awards, and Best Pop at the 2020 Souncity MVP Awards Festival. He was nominated for multiple City People Entertainment Awards and the Headies.

4.                          Wizkid
                 
                  Coming 4th in the top ten Nigerian Artistes is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, known professionally as Wizkid. He is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He began recording music at the age of 11 and managed to release a collaborative album with the Glorious Five, a group he and a couple of his church friends formed. In 2014, Wizkid became the first Nigerian musician to have over one million followers on Twitter. In 2016, Wizkid achieved international recognition following his collaboration with Drake on the global hit, "One Dance", which reached number one in many countries. Wizkid established his label imprint Starboy Entertainment in March 2013. He received an American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) Plaque for his songwriting contributions to Drake's "One Dance".

3.                             Fireboy DML

                         Number 3 on this list is Adedamola Adefolahan known professionally as Fireboy DMl, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He is currently signed to YBNL Nation, an independent record label founded by Nigerian rapper Olamide. His debut studio album, Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps was released in 2019. He has won multiple awards. One which is Listener's Choice and was nominated for Song of the Year for "Jealous" at the 2020 Souncity MVP Awards Festival. His music is a brand of R&B that combines love and social issues with empirical songwriting. 

2.                              Burna Boy
                             

                        Coming in 2nd on this list is world acclaimed musician Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu known as Burna Boy. He is a professional Nigerian singer and singwriter. He rose to prominence in 2012 after releasing "Like to Party", the lead single in his debut studio album L.I.F.E. In 2017, Burna Boy signed with Atlantic Records in the United States and Warner Music Group internationally. In 2019, he won Best International Act at the BET Awards and was announced as an Apple Music Up Next artist. His fourth studio album "African Giant" was released in July 2019; it won Album of the Year at the 2019 All Africa Music Awards and was nominated for Best World Music Album at the 62nd annual Grammy Awards. No wonder he is making the top two Nigerian Artistes.

1.                                     Davido
                              
                    In first place is world known musician David Adedeji Adeleke who is better known as Davido. He is an American-born Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer. He made his music debut as a member of the music group KB International. Davido rose to fame after releasing "Dami Duro", the second single from his debut studio album Omo Baba Olowo. In January 2016, Davido announced on Twitter he had signed a record deal with Sony Music and a few months later founded the record label Davido Music Worldwide (DMW). His song "IF" generated worldwide social media activity while "FALL" became the longest-charting Nigerian pop song in Billboard history. His music is a brand of Afrobeats. He has accomplished many things like; In 2019, Davido sold out the O2 Arena in London, becoming the first solo African Artist to do so. He also won the Best International Act in The Bet Awards in 2018. Now you see why he's topping this list of mega-talented Nigerian Artistes.
